In the Morning
A good morning to you my dear,
Another marvellous day awaits you!
A full 24 hours for you to fill it
with whatever you want to do!
Will today be a memorable day,
Filled with deep joy and peace?
A day of spiritual practice and awakenings,
As you journey towards the ultimate release?
Or will today just be another day,
Filled with chores and bores?
A day of mindless wanderings,
Trapped in one’s inner walls and wars?
As you look out at the world before you,
Turn your mind inside.
Is this the heart-mind you wish to carry,
To meet the world outside?
“A very good morning to you, my dear,”
Chirps your friend on a nearby tree,
“Spread your wings and fly with us,
And live your life with ease and free!”
In the Evening
A very good evening to you, my dear,
Welcome home to your heart-mind,
I hope you lived well today,
All 24 hours that’s now all behind.
Now as you turn away from the world,
Into the heart-mind inside,
Do you find a peace from the day you’ve lived,
Or a need to recover and hide?
Has today been a day well lived?
Did you learn the lessons that came your way?
Did you see the leaves falling down,
Reminding you of the passing of another day?
The days slip into months to years,
Our memories will fade and be replaced.
Our bodies start to creak and visibly age,
A testimony of the trials that we have faced.
For each day we live we can’t relive,
We can’t get back those 24 hours.
The day is gone and time moves on,
Yet this truth can inspire and empower.
So as you lay down to rest tonight,
Be grateful for the day that’s past,
Smile at all the faces you met today,
And resolve to live each day like your last.
